-
1
Board type
Solid is one piece of reclaimed wood. Engineered has a reclaimed wood top on a plywood base, so it stays flat over underfloor heating.
-
2
Board width
You choose the width. Lengths are mixed and depend on the reclaimed timber: 30–80 cm (solid), 60–220 cm (engineered). The mix of lengths is what gives a reclaimed floor its natural rhythm.
-
3
Surface and finish
Original patina keeps the old weathered face of the timber, with its marks and repairs. Sanded boards are sanded back to the clean grain underneath. Raw boards are unfinished: you oil or varnish them after laying.
-
4
Wood
Both are reclaimed from the same old buildings and cost the same.

Four steps to your floor
Measure the length and width of the room in metres. Type them in above and we work out the m² for you. For L-shaped rooms, measure each part and add them up.
Pick solid or engineered, a board width, a surface and your wood. The price per m² updates as you go. Not sure? Order a sample first.
Add 10% for cutting, check the total and order online. Freight is worked out from the weight, about 12 kg per m², and shown before you pay.
Your floor is made to order in 6–8 weeks and delivered on pallets. Your fitter glues the boards down. Raw boards are oiled or varnished after laying.
Solid or engineered
| Solid | Engineered | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | One piece of reclaimed oak or chestnut, top to bottom. | A layer of reclaimed oak or chestnut glued to a plywood base. |
| Thickness | 2 cm | 1.5 cm or 2 cm |
| Board widths | 6, 8 or 10 cm | 12 to 22 cm |
| Board lengths | Mixed, 30 to 80 cm | Mixed, 60 to 220 cm |
| Underfloor heating | No. Solid wood moves with heat and humidity and can cup or bow. | Yes. The plywood base keeps the board flat and stable. |
| Best for | Rooms without underfloor heating, where you want the whole board to be old wood. | Underfloor heating, apartments, large rooms, and anywhere the floor height must stay low. |
| Price | Lower per m². | Higher per m², because of the extra work in making the board. |
Original patina or sanded
Original patina
The face of the board is the old outer surface of the timber, exactly as it weathered over the decades. Nail holes, cracks and old repairs stay visible.
- Darker, greyer and more varied in colour
- Cracks are repaired and small holes filled, then left as they are
- Supplied raw, or varnished with clear matt varnish
Sanded
The same reclaimed boards, sanded and brushed back to the clean grain underneath. Still old wood with knots and character, but smoother and lighter.
- Lighter, warmer and more even in colour
- Smooth underfoot, holes filled
- Supplied raw, or oiled in our workshop
Raw boards are unfinished and cost less. Your fitter oils or varnishes them after laying, which also seals the joints. Varnished and oiled boards are finished in our workshop and ready to use once laid.
Both come from the same old buildings and cost the same. Oak is warmer and more varied; chestnut is a little lighter and more even. Order a sample of each to compare at home.
All boards are tongue and groove and are glued down with a professional parquet adhesive, on concrete, screed, old tiles or an old floor. Order shortly before laying and keep the boards in a dry room.
How the boards can be laid

This page is for plank flooring. We make herringbone, plank, chevron and bespoke floors from the same reclaimed timber. See our flooring inspiration PDF for finished floors.

How much flooring should I order?
Measure the length and width of each room in metres and multiply them. Type the two numbers into the calculator on this page and we round the area up to whole m². Add about 10% for cutting and waste (tick the box and we add it for you). The minimum order is 20 m².
Solid or engineered: which should I choose?
If you have underfloor heating, choose engineered. Otherwise both work. Solid is one piece of old wood, 2 cm thick. Engineered has a reclaimed wood top on a plywood base, 1.5 cm or 2 cm thick, and stays flatter where temperature and humidity change.
What is the difference between raw and finished boards?
Raw boards are unfinished and cost less. Your fitter oils or varnishes them after laying. Varnished (original patina) and oiled (sanded) boards are finished in our workshop and are ready to use once laid. We recommend a clear matt finish, which protects the wood without changing its colour.
How long will my floor take?
Every floor is made to order. Most are ready in 6–8 weeks, and we confirm your delivery date once your order is placed.
How is it delivered and what does freight cost?
Floors are delivered on pallets. Freight is charged by weight, about 12 kg per m², and is shown on this page and at checkout before you pay. For example, 20 m² weighs about 240 kg.
Will my floor look like the photos?
Reclaimed oak and chestnut carry their history, so colour, grain, knots and old marks vary from board to board. Your floor will share the character you see in the photos, but no two floors are the same. Order a sample to see the surface at home first.
How is it installed and stored?
All boards are tongue and groove and are glued down with a professional parquet adhesive onto a flat, dry subfloor: concrete, screed, old tiles or an old floor. Order shortly before laying and keep the boards in a dry room at normal room temperature. Long or damp storage can affect the boards.
