The Solstice is a freestanding reclaimed solid oak bookcase built from timber recovered from historic structures and old barns in Croatia and Serbia. Shelves are fitted using traditional joinery rather than metal fixings, allowing the oak to move naturally with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity. The surface carries the full depth of weathering and character the timber has accumulated over decades. Knots, natural colour variation, and filled imperfections are preserved rather than corrected.

Materials

Body: 100% reclaimed antique oak sourced from historic structures and old barns in Croatia and Serbia. All structural and shelf components are solid reclaimed oak, joined using traditional woodworking joinery throughout.

Certification: FSC and PEFC certified.

Stability: Naturally dried over decades, reclaimed oak is considerably more stable than newly harvested timber. Traditional joinery allows for natural seasonal wood movement without stress.

Character: Every bookcase carries unique grain variation, natural knots, colour shifts, and carefully filled cracks. No two pieces are identical.

Care Instructions

Reclaimed oak is a living material that responds to changes in humidity and temperature. Traditional joinery construction allows the wood to expand and contract naturally; keep the bookcase away from direct heat sources such as radiators to support this movement and prevent unnecessary stress on the joints.

Daily Cleaning: Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cotton cloth. Dry immediately afterwards.

Chemicals: Avoid alcohol-based cleaners, bleach, and abrasive products.

Spills: Wipe promptly. Do not allow liquids to sit on the shelf surfaces.

Heat and Sunlight: Position away from radiators and direct sustained sunlight to prevent uneven colour change and joint stress over time.

Wood Oil: Apply natural wood care oil at regular intervals to nourish the grain and maintain the depth of the oak's natural surface.

Unfinished Surfaces: The oak will continue to develop a natural patina in use. This is expected and adds to the character of the piece over time.

In-stock items and samples are dispatched promptly and arrive within 3 to 5 business days.

Made-to-order and bespoke pieces are prepared specially for you and are ready within 3 to 4 weeks. We will keep you updated throughout.

Larger pieces, such as dining tables, beams and flooring, are delivered by pallet. Delivery times remain broadly the same.

Returns

Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery on in-stock items.

Bespoke and made-to-order pieces are crafted to your specifications and cannot be returned, unless they arrive damaged or faulty.

Samples are non-returnable. If you place a full order afterwards, we are happy to credit the sample cost against it.

Each piece is made from reclaimed timber, so natural variation in colour, grain and texture is part of its character and is not considered a fault.

If an item arrives damaged, faulty or incorrect, contact us straight away and we will put it right at no cost to you. For change-of-mind returns, return shipping is the responsibility of the customer. For larger pieces delivered by pallet, please note that return carriage can be significant.

To start a return, contact us with your order number and reason. We will provide return authorisation and instructions. Once we receive and inspect the item, we will refund your original payment method within 7 to 10 business days.
