Every solid flooring board is made from 100% recycled timber. Engineered flooring uses the same 100% recycled hardwood for the wear layer. The plywood core can also be specified as FSC Recycled 100% on request. Full certification details are listed in the Construction section below. For a closer look at how this floor can be laid, visit the Pattern Layout section. Plank format works in straight runs as well as herringbone arrangements, giving specifiers and homeowners a range of options within a single material.

Reclaimed Wood Flooring UK: A Pattern Guide
Reclaimed Wood Flooring UK: A Pattern Guide Reclaimed wood flooring UK architects and interior designers specify falls into four distinct pattern families: plank, herringbone, chevron, and markuteri. Each one behaves differently in a space. So before you commit to a timber batch, it helps to understand what sets them apart and which construction suits your project. What Sets Reclaimed Wood Flooring Apart New timber flooring gives you a uniform surface. Reclaimed wood flooring gives you something quite different. Each board carries original patina, checking cracks, tool marks, and grain variation that new timber cannot offer. Woodyworkz sources oak and chestnut from the Black Sea region, Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia. Every board carries FSC Recycled 100% and PEFC certification. Moisture content is controlled at 10% ±2% across all products. Both solid and engineered constructions are available throughout the range. "These boards spent between 50 and 150 years in agricultural or industrial structures. That life leaves marks no factory can replicate." Woodyworkz Workshop, April 2026 Understanding FSC Certification in Engineered Flooring Engineered flooring is a two-layer flooring product composed of a solid wood top layer bonded over a birch plywood base. When aiming for a product that is 100% FSC Recycled certified, it is essential that not only the top layer but also the birch base material is sourced from fully FSC Recycled certified wood. If the birch component does not meet this requirement, the engineered flooring cannot be classified as 100% recycled. Instead, it will fall under the FSC Mixed category, indicating that only a portion of the materials comes from recycled or responsibly sourced origins. The Four Reclaimed Wood Flooring Patterns Below, each pattern is explained with its key dimensions, construction options, and the spaces it suits best. Full technical specifications follow in a consolidated table at the end of this guide. Plank Flooring Engineering Flooring Plank is the most widely used reclaimed wood flooring pattern in the UK. Boards run parallel in variable lengths. The result is a clean linear effect that works in most rooms and suits both residential and commercial projects. The solid option runs 30 to 100 cm long and 6 to 10 cm wide at 20 mm thick. The engineered option runs 80 to 250 cm long and 12 to 22 cm wide at 15 or 20 mm thick. Engineered plank is compatible with underfloor heating. Solid plank is not. Oak & Chestnut UFH: Engineered only Install: Adhesive FSC Recycled 100% Lengths: 30–250 cm Thickness: 15–20 mm Herringbone Flooring Engineering Flooring Herringbone creates a 90-degree interlocking pattern. Each board meets its neighbour at a right angle. The result is a distinctive zigzag effect when viewed along the floor's length. It works well in hallways and dining rooms. Woodyworkz herringbone boards come in two sizes: 70 x 350 mm and 110 x 450 mm. Solid boards are 20 mm thick. Engineered boards are available at 15 or 20 mm. Installation is by full adhesive bonding throughout. 70×350 / 110×450 mm Solid: 20 mm Engineered: 15/20 mm UFH: Engineered only PEFC Certified Chevron 45/60 Flooring Engineering Flooring Chevron is related to herringbone but distinct. Each board is cut at an angle so both sides meet at a single point. The result is a continuous arrow shape rather than a zigzag. It creates a stronger directional pull in a room. Woodyworkz offers two angles. Chevron 45 creates a wider, more open arrow. Chevron 60 creates a longer, narrower one. Engineered boards add an extra size option at 150 x 600 mm. Both angles are available in solid and engineered. 45° & 60° angles Up to 150×600 mm UFH: Engineered only Install: Adhesive FSC Recycled 100% Markuteri Engineering Flooring Markuteri is a decorative parquetry pattern built from smaller blocks in geometric configurations. It is available in engineered construction only, at 16 mm total thickness with a 4 mm wear layer. This pattern suits formal spaces where the floor is a key design element. Three layout variants are available: frame and fill, diagonal block, and basket weave. Markuteri supports underfloor heating and is installed by adhesive. Engineered only 16 mm total (4 mm wear layer) UFH: Compatible Install: Adhesive 3 layout variants Solid vs Engineered Reclaimed Wood Flooring in the UK The choice between solid and engineered comes down to three factors: underfloor heating, subfloor type, and the board width you need. Solid boards are single-layer timber. They respond more strongly to moisture and temperature change. They do not suit underfloor heating. For rooms with stable, consistent subfloor conditions, solid is a sound choice. Board widths run 6 to 10 cm. Engineered boards bond a reclaimed hardwood wear layer to a plywood core. The core stabilises the board across temperature cycles. So engineered construction is the right choice for rooms with underfloor heating. It also allows wider boards (up to 22 cm for plank, up to 150 x 600 mm for chevron) without the movement risk that comes with wide solid timber. Both carry FSC Recycled 100% and PEFC certification. Both are installed by adhesive. If so, specify engineered construction only. Measure the room and agree on a laying direction before ordering. Pattern choice affects cutting waste. Request a physical sample from the actual batch. Colour and surface character vary between deliveries. Confirm the moisture content of the subfloor. Target 75% RH or below before laying. Ask for the FSC and PEFC certification documentation. Both come as standard on all Woodyworkz flooring. Agree on the surface option: Original Patina (preserved as found) or Sanded (lightly worked for a cleaner result). Clarify the lead time before the project programme is set. Reclaimed stock is batch-sourced. Frequently Asked Questions Is reclaimed wood flooring suitable for underfloor heating? Engineered reclaimed wood flooring is compatible with underfloor heating. Solid reclaimed wood flooring is not. Solid boards are more sensitive to temperature and moisture change. They can move significantly over a heated subfloor. Engineered construction, with its plywood core, handles the thermal cycle well. What is the difference between herringbone and chevron flooring? Herringbone boards meet at 90-degree angles, producing a zigzag effect along the floor's length. Chevron boards are cut at an angle so both sides of the pattern meet at a single point, creating a continuous arrow shape. Chevron tends to create a stronger directional effect in a space. Herringbone is more traditional in character. What certification does Woodyworkz reclaimed wood flooring carry? All Woodyworkz flooring carries FSC Recycled 100% and PEFC certification. Both apply across the solid and engineered ranges and cover all four pattern families. Certification documentation is provided on request for project specifications. How is reclaimed wood flooring installed? All Woodyworkz flooring is installed by full adhesive bonding to a prepared subfloor. The subfloor must be flat, dry, and structurally sound before laying. Moisture content should be at or below 75% RH. We recommend working with an experienced wood flooring installer and can provide installation guidance notes on request. What is the Original Patina surface and how does it differ from the Sanded option? The Original Patina surface (1. Patina Orijinal Yüzey) preserves the board face as recovered. Structural repairs are made to cracks and nail holes, but the aged surface character remains. The Sanded surface (Silinmiş Yüzey) is lightly sanded and brushed for a cleaner result. Both options are available across all pattern families and constructions. Learn moreWhat Is Reclaimed Wood? The Complete Guide to Salvaged Timber
What is reclaimed wood? In simple terms, it is lumber that has already served a purpose in a building or structure and has been carefully extracted for a new life.

We don’t just tell stories — we bring them to your home.
Every piece tells a story of dedication to the craft. Our artisans blend traditional woodworking techniques with contemporary design sensibilities, creating furniture that brings warmth and character to your space. From carefully selected timber to hand-finished details, each creation is built to become a cherished part of your home for generations to come.
The Rebirth of an Old Structure
Every piece of reclaimed oak we use has already lived a full life. Here's how we give it a second one.
Sourcing
We locate end-of-life structures across the Balkans — old barns, farmhouses, and rural buildings no longer in use. Every reclamation project starts here.
Deconstruction
Our team dismantles each structure by hand. No bulldozers, no waste. Every beam and plank is recovered intact.
Cleaning
Decades of dirt, paint, and weathering are stripped away. What's left is raw, aged oak — exactly what we need.
Metal Extraction
Every embedded nail, bolt, and metal fragment is detected and removed by hand. One missed piece can destroy a blade — and a finished product.
Primary Cutting
Raw timbers are cut into workable dimensions for the first time. This is where rough lumber starts becoming material.
Thickness Calibration
Each piece is planed to its required thickness. Structural integrity and dimensional accuracy start here.
Surface Refinement
Edges and faces are carefully finished. The wood transitions from rough stock into refined, usable material.
Precision Shaping
Final forms are cut with millimetre accuracy. Natural character — grain, knots, patina — is deliberately preserved.
Grain Reveal
Fine sanding exposes the oak's original grain patterns. What some call imperfections, we call identity — marks of a century, not damage.
Kiln Drying
Heat treatment and controlled kiln drying bring the moisture content to precise levels. This is what makes our wood last a lifetime.
Recyclable Materials
Our products are made from 100% recyclable materials, helping reduce environmental impact and support a circular economy.
Sustainably Sourced
We partner with responsible suppliers who prioritize environmental conservation and sustainable forestry practices.
FSC Certified
Our materials come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.
PEFC Certified
Products certified by PEFC ensure sustainable forest management and responsible sourcing throughout the supply chain.
